Oscars 2018 Recap
The 90th Academy Awards took place on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Hollywood,CA at the Dolby Theatre hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and televised on ABC Television Network. Jimmy Kimmel set the right tone during his opening speech by stating, "it's a night for positivity."
The big winner of the night was "The Shape of Water" which was the most nominated film including a win for Best Picture. Surprisingly, presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty returned to present the Best Picture Award and this second time around was a charm without the wrong envelope being presented.
Other highlights included Jordan Peele winning Best Original Screenplay for "Get Out" and musical performance from Mary J. Blige who performed "Mighty River" from the film "Mudbound." Mary J. Blige is the first person ever to be nominated for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress. Andra Day and Common performed "Stand Up For Something" from the film "Marshall" and other musical performances included "This is Me" from the film "The Greatest Showman" and "Remember Me" from the animated film "Coco" which was the winner of the Best Music Original Score category.
Jimmy Kimmel orchestrated a great Oscar moment when he recruited some Oscar attendees including Emily Blunt, Lupita Nyong'o, Ansel Elgort, Margo Robbie, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Mark Hamill to surprise an audience at the TCL Chinese Theatre where the audience was watching a screening of "Wrinkle in Time."

Actress Jeante' Godlock Portrays Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles in "Courage To Soar" on Lifetime
Olympic Champion Gymnast Simone Biles shares her story
"Courage to Soar" which will premiere on Lifetime Television on
February 3, 2018 at 8PM ET/PT.
Actress Jeanté Godlock, portrays Simone Biles in "Courage
to Soar" and shares her journey of being cast to play Simone Biles.
Q&A
Q: How did you learn about the casting opportunity for
"Courage to Soar?"
A: I learned about the casting opportunity through Tracy Twinkie
Byrd’s Instagram page. She made a post with a national call looking for the
next Simone Biles.
***
Q: What was your first reaction to being cast by Twinkie Byrd
for the lead role portraying Simone Biles?
A: I cried. I was so happy. It was honestly a dream come true. I
took one of Twinkie’s casting workshops a couple years prior, so it was an
amazing feeling to see the work pay off, and actually be cast by her.
***
Q: How did you prepare for the role? For example, did you have
gymnastics training?
A: I got in the gym right away. I’m familiar with being in a
gymnastics gym but I hadn’t in a while, so a refresher was definitely needed. I
immediately started getting familiar with the beam and tumbling again. I
stretched A LOT. I also had gymnastics training before and during filming. As
far as playing the actual character of Simone, I watched any and every video I
could find on her. Her routines, interviews, YouTube videos, etc. I wanted to
know every piece of her story.
***
Q: Did you have the opportunity to meet Simone Biles before,
during, and/or after the movie? What was that initial experience like?
A: I met Simone during filming. She came up to set one day, and
that was by far the best day of production. Everyone had an amazing time. She
was awesome! We clicked right away, and it was like we had been friends for a
while. When I first saw her I screamed and gave her a huge hug. We were both
really excited to meet. We now keep in touch and talk to each other
often.

Q: Veteran actor Tisha Martin-Campbell plays your Mom in the
movie, what was it like working with her?Did she give you any acting advice?
A: It was an AMAZING experience working with Tisha Campbell
Martin. I grew up watching her on tv, and when I found out she was playing my
mother I was so happy. It was so funny because she’s so motherly. She fell
right into that role with me and Raven Bowens who plays my sister in the film.
On set she would always ask if I needed anything and she just really took care
of me. Some of my favorite scenes were with Tisha. We connected right away, so
I always looked forward to my scenes with her. Before our scenes she would
always tell me, “You got it!” And we went to work. It was great.
***
Q. When will the movie premiere on Lifetime?
A: The movie will premiere on Lifetime on February 3, 2018 at
8PM ET/PT
***
Q: What else would you like to share with the viewers as an
introduction to the actress Jeante Godlock?
A: "Hello World” as my saying goes. I’d just like to say
that we all have a story to tell, and never give up on how you want to tell
that story. The road to success is never easy, but with hard work and
dedication it can be done. Being able to play Simone Biles is a representation
of that, and I couldn’t be more proud to see my hard work pay off. I hope
everyone enjoys the film, and I can’t wait to see what my next adventure will
be. Keep dreaming.
